Driving Positive Change: Creating a Culture of Excellence for a Brighter Future
Like many people in Compensation, I didn’t plan my career path. My journey to Workday however, was purposeful and one of admiration. My love of Workday products started several years ago as an end user and intensified after leading an RFP for an HCM solution at a previous employer. Throughout that process it was clear to me the unique opportunity HR professionals have working at Workday. Not only do we get to build and nurture a culture of excellence but we also have a critical seat at the table to use, influence and test Workday product functionality. As a Senior Director of Compensation at Workday, I understand the significance of analytics, cross-functional collaboration, automation, and employee engagement initiatives in driving positive impact and achieving remarkable results. In this blog, we’ll explore tips on how we harness the power of technology and partnerships to create and maintain a culture of excellence.
Illuminate Insights: The Power of Analytics
Analytics and insights serve as the guiding light in our decision-making processes at Workday. By leveraging a robust framework of employee data, we gain a macro-level perspective through dashboards and key metrics, as well as delve into detailed analysis to identify patterns, outliers, and drivers of success. In our HR team (known as People & Purpose) we have a dedicated People Analytics team that has developed dashboards for managers as well as senior leaders. These dashboards provide insights on a variety of topics from hiring effectiveness, to rewards and recognition, career growth, talent assessment and time and absence for their team. Having these real-time insights at their fingertips is critical for enabling effective leadership.
Knowledge is Power: Building Tools to Showcase Employee Value
I have a passion for equity compensation but I realize that for a lot of people stock is very confusing and it’s hard to understand the value of programs like an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) or Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) grants. To help our employees better understand the past and future value of these programs, I collaborated with our Workday on Workday (WoW) team to create tools that illuminate the value of programs like RSUs and ESPP. We built customized tabs in employees’ profiles that provide visibility into future RSU vesting details, empowering individuals to comprehend the value that may vest in the coming years. We also developed a report that models ESPP participation costs based on employee preferences, helping them make informed decisions. These tools have not only been beneficial for our employees but also showcase Workday’s configurability and value to our customers and prospects.
Enhance Employee Feedback: HR for a Brighter Future
At Workday, we understand that employee feedback is a powerful tool for driving results and fostering a positive work environment. Our Workday Peakon Employee Voice Tool allows us to listen to our Workmates through anonymous feedback, understand what matters most, and take swift action. Based on responses managers receive, Workday Peakon Employee Voice uses AI to equip leaders with the tools they need to take action and drive positive change. Through comprehensive reporting we can identify strengths and weaknesses of different leaders allowing us to find bright spots and share these insights to improve leadership skills and employee engagement.
Forge Foundational Cross-Functional Partnerships
Collaboration across functions is the lifeblood of organizational success. In my role, I actively participate in monthly meetings with product managers from the Core Compensation product areas. These touch points serve as a crucial platform for fostering mutual learning and understanding. On one hand, I gain valuable insights into the product team’s plans for future enhancements and customer feedback. On the other hand, the product team benefits from our expertise in compensation matters by gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges we face, the unique requirements of our industry, and the custom solutions we have developed. This cross-functional partnership ensures that both parties are equipped with a comprehensive understanding of each other’s perspectives and can leverage this knowledge to drive innovation and create meaningful solutions for our business and for our customers
At Workday, our journey to excellence is not just a destination but an ongoing pursuit. By embracing these principles and practices, we have been able to build a strong foundation as we continue to cultivate a lasting culture of excellence. Through our dedication to analytics, empowerment, feedback, and collaboration we’ve been able to foster a work place that inspires our workforce to achieve remarkable results. Together, we are committed to making a lasting impact on the future of work.
