Fostering a Culture of Support and Purpose- The Workday Way

When it comes to a fulfilling workplace experience, few things matter as much as the culture and values of the company. After more than four years here, I can confidently say that Workday has not only embraced its culture, but has also cultivated it into something truly extraordinary. There are two key characteristics that, I think, that drive our culture: supporting one another, and taking action with purpose.

I’ve had the opportunity to see these characteristics come to life- not just in my own work, but cross-functionally.

A Global Culture of Support

In the corporate world, it’s rare to find a company where the warmth of camaraderie permeates an entire organization. Workday has managed to encapsulate this essence, creating a culture that I affectionately describe as a “warm friendliness and eagerness to help others in need.”

As a legal counsel with a customer-facing role, I often find myself navigating through tough negotiations with clients. But here’s where the magic of our culture shines. Whenever I need assistance, be it before or after a negotiation, I can turn to my Workmates with absolute confidence. The willingness to help is ingrained in our DNA. If my colleagues can’t directly assist, they’re more than happy to connect me with someone who can. Moreover, our workplace encourages open and candid discussions.

I can engage in challenging conversations with fellow Workmates- we can brainstorm and prepare for negotiations without fear of stepping on anyone’s toes. We all share the same goal — customer satisfaction — and that makes collaboration a breeze. This supportive atmosphere makes my job not just manageable, but enjoyable!

But it doesn’t stop there. Workday is unlike anywhere I’ve worked because it actively encourages employees to strike a harmonious balance between work and life. Our leadership teams insist that we prioritize rest. Taking days off isn’t just an option; it’s a necessity. Knowing that we support one another, I can go on holidays and truly relax. I am free from my worry of emails or to-do lists.

Beyond the collaborative spirit, Workday is a company with a moral compass that never waivers. We’re driven by a sense of purpose that’s perfectly balanced between people, profit, and the planet.

Action with Purpose

Our commitment to doing what’s right is woven into the fabric of our operations. When working with customers, we’re transparent about our limitations, never over-promising and under-delivering. Instead, we take a sustainable, long-term approach to customer satisfaction, steering clear of shortcuts that offer quick rewards that would compromise our principles. This unwavering commitment to integrity isn’t just about customer relationships; it’s a core value within the company itself.

As the legal counsel in Asia, I’ve been asked why we don’t skip certain legal processes that our competitors might. We’ve always stood firm because we believe in conducting our business in a way that’s proper and mutually beneficial.

Our customers notice this dedication to doing the right thing, and they appreciate Workday for it. It’s not just about profit margins; it’s about building relationships founded on trust and shared values.

Redefining Company Culture

My journey with Workday has been more than just a job; it’s been an immersion in a culture that values collaboration, support, and integrity. It’s a company where you’re not just encouraged to succeed, but to do so with purpose. Workday has redefined what a workplace should be, it’s the right way. The Workday way. And I’m proud to be a part of this journey towards building a brighter workday for all.
