As Principal Technical Integration Consultant in Tel Aviv, I joined Workday with the acquisition of HiredScore, a startup where I worked for about 5 years. My role is to make sure the HiredScore platform integrates with customers’ HR systems, including Workday! I’m a bridge-builder, ensuring different systems seamlessly communicate and share information. It’s a challenging role that combines technical expertise with a passion for helping organisations improve their talent acquisition processes using AI.

A New Chapter

Before the acquisition, I was involved in the Workday partnership and integration process for HiredScore. I became Workday HCM certified, gaining deep knowledge of Workday from both an admin and reporting perspective. I gained a strong understanding of its granular permissions and built a solid foundation for developing the integration. Throughout this experience, I connected with talented people at Workday who were passionate about their work and committed to excellence. Their dedication and high standards left a lasting impression. So when the intent to acquire was announced I was excited!

The acquisition has brought new challenges and opportunities. It’s been fascinating to see the company cultures merge, and I’ve learned a lot about Workday’s values and approach to technology and system architecture since the acquisition closed. One of the biggest changes has been the expansion of my scope. Where I previously focused on integrating HiredScore with various HRIS and ATS platforms, I now also support its integration with Workday’s other solutions, broadening my technical knowledge and internal network.

Joining Workday has brought renewed energy and excitement to the team. Being part of a larger organisation has opened up new avenues for growth and development and we now have access to more resources, training programs, and opportunities for collaboration that weren’t possible in a start-up. It’s been inspiring to see how our team embraced the change and quickly learned new ways of working.

A Consultant’s Role: Advising, Implementing, and Innovating

My days vary, which is one of the things I love about my role. One day, I might be on a pre-sales call with a potential client, answering technical questions about integrating with their HRIS or ATS. We discuss the technical specifics of their systems, pain points, and explore how HiredScore with its advanced AI capabilities can address their needs. It’s a collaborative process where I get to act as a consultant and advisor, helping them understand the technical possibilities and benefits.

Another day might involve leading a technical presentation for a new client. I walk them through the integration process step-by-step, showcasing our platform’s capabilities and how it can streamline their talent workflows. I demonstrate how data flows between systems, how different functionalities work together, and how we will approach the integrations to improve their hiring process. It’s rewarding to see the “aha” moments when clients realise the potential of a AI capabilities in their talent management system.

A significant part of my job is the actual implementation and validation of customer and platform/software integrations. This is where the more technical work happens. I collaborate with client technical teams, diving deep into their systems to ensure everything is configured correctly. It’s like solving a complex puzzle, mapping out data fields, configuring APIs, and ensuring that information flows correctly and securely. This requires troubleshooting any technical hiccups that might pop up along the way. The role demands an eye for detail, clear communication, patience, a willingness to learn and strong problem-solving skills.

Sharing Expertise: Empowering Teams and Customers

I document every integration process and configuration I build, to create resources that are valuable reference material for internal teams and customers. This ensures that everyone understands the process and maintains consistency across different projects. I also act as a subject matter expert for our sales, customer support, and product teams, providing guidance and support on anything integration-related. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping others understand the intricacies of our integrations and the power of a connected tech stack.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is contributing to the future development of HiredScore. I provide feedback to our product and R&D teams on upcoming features, ensuring new functionalities are seamlessly integrated and well-documented. I share insights from working with customers, highlighting their needs and challenges, and suggesting ways to improve the platform. It’s exciting to be involved in shaping the future of hiring and to see my input realised through new features and enhancements.

My work impacts customer success. By ensuring smooth and efficient integrations, I help them streamline their talent acquisition processes, improve data accuracy, enhance collaboration, and make better data-driven decisions benefiting both the candidate and organisation to find the right match.

Advice for Aspiring Consultants

If you’re thinking about a career as a technical integration consultant, here are a few things I’ve learned along the way:

  • Technical Proficiency: A solid foundation in software integrations and APIs is essential. This includes understanding different integration patterns, different architectures, data formats, and communication protocols. You should be comfortable working with various technologies and have a strong grasp of software development principles.
  • Communication Skills: You need to be able to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences. This involves active listening, empathy, and the ability to tailor your communication style to different stakeholders. Whether you’re writing technical documentation, presenting to a client, or troubleshooting an issue with a developer, clear and effective communication is crucial.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Troubleshooting is a big part of the job, so strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a must. You need to be able to identify the root cause of an issue, analyse data, and develop creative solutions. This involves thinking outside the box, collaborating with others, and being persistent in finding the right answer.
  • Adaptability: The world of tech is evolving, so you need to be a lifelong learner and embrace new technologies. Be curious, stay updated on industry trends, and be willing to adapt your skills and knowledge to meet the changing demands of the field.
