Innovation in Action: Harnessing Skills Across Workday’s Sales Organization
As I sit down to reflect on my journey to sales, I can’t help but feel a surge of gratitude and excitement. I’m Meredith Foster, but within the halls of Workday, I go by “Mer/Mere.” To me, Workday isn’t just a workplace; it’s a community where every individual is valued. For the past nine years, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of this dynamic community, evolving from a Solution Consultant to an Account Executive. Come along as I share my Workmate journey highlighting some of my favorite moments of innovation, leadership and belonging.
Navigating New Pathways into SaaS Sales
Nine years ago, I made a bold decision to transition from teaching Special Education focusing on Emotional/Behavior disabilities to embracing the corporate world of SaaS sales. I translated the skills acquired throughout my tenure to the skills required to be successful in a company like Workday. Recognizing the value of my diverse background, Workday provided a platform for my skills to thrive as a Solution Consultant. Little did I know that this leap of faith would lead me to a place where software demonstrations and strategic dialogues with C-suite executives would become second nature.
At 32 years old, with two daughters and over a decade since my college days, I found acceptance at Workday, joining a program initially designed for recent graduates. My diverse background and experience added a unique perspective to the team dynamic. However, it was the unwavering support and mentorship from many women in leadership which gave me the confidence I needed to believe that I had endless opportunities at Workday.
Innovating for Impact
Guided by remarkable mentors, I fused my educational creativity with technical and business skills gained as a Solution Consultant, birthing the Field Innovation Team. Fueled by a desire to infuse creativity into our sales cycles, I spearheaded initiatives that showcased our own Workday on Workday story. This experience allowed me to be recognized as someone who could effectively connect with customers on a deeper level, fostering trust and authenticity. After building the Field Innovation Team I was given the opportunity to join our People and Purpose (Human Resources) team, contributing to transformative projects like the Talent Marketplace and the VIBE Index. Each endeavor underscored our commitment to innovation and inclusivity.

At Workday, diversity isn’t just a buzzword; it’s ingrained in our DNA. From the onset, I found myself embraced for who I am — a working mother with a unique career trajectory.
