I’m Stefanie García Tomlinson, a talent acquisition manager at Workday. My journey with Workday spans seven years, and I have the privilege of calling our headquarters in Pleasanton, California, my professional home. I love what I do, where I do it, and who I do it with.

I am also the Co-Global Liaison for our Unidos Employee Belonging Council (EBC), formerly known as our Latinx EBC (I’ll share more on that below if you keep reading!). From September 15 to October 15, we’re recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latinx Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. This couldn’t be a better time for us to share the new name for our Latinx EBC, which is now Unidos.

Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month (NHHM) is a time to recognize and celebrate the many contributions, diverse cultures and extensive histories of the American Latino and American Hispanic communities.

Workmates are celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month (NHHM) on a global scale. From dance lessons, fireside chats, and Cantinas to Slacktivities (Slack activities), potlucks, and Cafecitos, we’ve made sure that across the globe, all can participate whether in person or remote.

We’ve recently launched the Dublin chapter of our Unidos EBC, which provides a hub for everyone in Ireland to stay connected to the community. Each year we create a theme for NHHM that is the overarching focus of all of our events and celebrations. This year, it’s Better Together — Strength in Unity. Creating the theme for this year’s NHHM was easy to follow our renaming of Latinx EBC to Unidos.

Unidos

Unidos is really what our theme represents in one word…united, stronger together as one community. This comes to life through our communication, being an advocate and ally with one another, and celebrating the unique qualities that make our community shine.

Workday is a global company that works hard to make sure we as Workmates feel connected to each other and our culture, no matter where we are in the world. We wanted to create a new name for our Latinx EBC that would better resonate with our Hispanic, Latino and Brazilian Workmates in Europe. We reevaluated our name and came together (putting Unidos into action!) to come up with a name that represents our Hispanic, Latino, and Brazilian Workmates around the world. Unidos means united, and felt like a better representation of our global Workmates who identify as part of the community. Unidos EBC is a global Employee Belonging Council that celebrates the Hispanic, Latino, Brazilian employee experience, their impact, and contributions to Workday.

A Culture of Collectivism

Collectivism, a cornerstone of many vibrant cultures around the world like the Hispanic and Latinx communities, illuminates the power of community collaboration and the strength found in unity. At Workday, we believe that when we work together, we win together. Unity is defined by the collaborative spirit that thrives within us. It’s when our Workmates come together, supporting one another to achieve common goals, with the ultimate goal of inspiring brighter work days for all. Unity, as we see it, empowers every individual to live and breathe our core values, with “Employees” being the first and foremost. It’s through this core value that we cultivate a sense of unity among our Workmates.

Because of that, we are stronger. Together.
