Being a Workday HCM Solution Consultant is about finding smart, practical solutions to real-world challenges. Every organization I work with has its own unique struggles — some are bogged down by outdated systems, while others are searching for ways to streamline processes and improve employee experiences. My job is to listen, analyze, and showcase how Workday can help them work smarter and create better workplaces.

It’s a role that keeps me on my toes. I get to work at the intersection of HR and technology, bridging gaps and solving problems. What makes it rewarding is seeing the change in action — manual processes replaced with automation, HR teams empowered with accurate data, and employees benefiting from a better work experience.

However, consulting isn’t just about technical expertise; it’s about constantly learning and growing. That’s why events like Workday Rising are so important — they’re opportunities to connect, share ideas, and get a fresh perspective on how we can do our jobs better.

The Consultant’s Journey: More Than a Job

When people ask me what it’s like to be a Workday HCM Solution Consultant, I tell them it’s part detective, part storyteller. You need to understand the client’s pain points, analyze their processes, and then explain how Workday can be the solution. But you also need to bring them along on the journey — showing them not just the “how,” but the “why.”

No two projects are the same, which means no two days are the same. It’s challenging, but that’s what keeps it exciting.

Why Workday Rising Matters

Attending Workday Rising this year gave me a fresh perspective on my role. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, but the event was a reminder of the bigger picture — how the work we do fits into a much larger ecosystem of innovation and collaboration.

One of the biggest highlights was learning more about how AI and machine learning are shaping the future of HR. These technologies aren’t just buzzwords — they’re tools that can help organizations make smarter decisions, automate repetitive tasks, and create more tailored employee experiences. Seeing how these innovations are evolving gave me new ways to think about the solutions I propose to clients.

Another standout theme was diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). At Workday, we value inclusion, belonging, and equity, VIBE™, for all. And we bring that to life by fostering a workplace where every Workmate is valued for their unique perspective, respected as an equal and integral part of the team, and given fair access to opportunity. This message resonated deeply with me as I engaged with attendees — particularly companies in Korea looking to expand globally. Their interest in building diverse and inclusive workforces highlighted how much this matters to organizations everywhere — and how Workday can play a pivotal role in helping them achieve it.

The Power of Storytelling

One of the most valuable lessons I took away from Workday Rising was the importance of storytelling in consulting. Yes, we deal with technology, data, and processes, but at its core, this job is about people. It’s about helping organizations solve problems in a way that resonates with them — making the complex simple and relatable.

That realization has already shifted how I approach client interactions. I’ve started focusing more on framing solutions in a way that connects to their broader goals. It’s not just about fixing what’s broken; it’s about painting a picture of what’s possible.

Looking Ahead

Workday Rising wasn’t just another event on the calendar. It was a chance to learn, connect, and grow. From understanding the latest in AI to engaging in conversations about DE&I, I walked away with a deeper appreciation for the impact we can make — not just as consultants, but as part of a larger community.

Being a Workday HCM Solution Consultant means helping organizations navigate change and build better workplaces. And events like Workday Rising remind me why I do what I do. It’s not just about solving problems; it’s about creating opportunities — for clients, for their employees, and for myself to keep learning and improving.

If you’re thinking about stepping into a role like this, my advice is simple: Stay curious. Be ready to listen, learn, and adapt. And don’t forget — it’s the people, not just the technology, that make this work truly meaningful.
